Our team was entrusted with enhancing the realism of a skydiving VR simulator by refining its physics. Leveraging our in-house expertise, we developed a physics engine that accurately replicates the exhilarating experience of skydiving and flying a parachute, immersing users in a truly authentic virtual adventure.

In our VR Skydiving project, our software agency set out to transform the virtual skydiving experience. We focused on refining the simulator's physics engine to closely mimic the exhilarating dynamics of real skydiving and parachute control. This endeavor was not just about technical enhancement but about creating a deeply immersive experience that bridges the gap between virtual and actual skydiving. Our approach combined expertise in VR technology and physics to deliver an authentic, adrenaline-fueled adventure, redefining the standards of virtual reality experiences. The core issue with the existing VR skydiving simulator lay in its rudimentary and unsophisticated engine. Users were faced with a simulation that was noticeably jerky and lacking in fluidity, detracting significantly from the realism of the skydiving experience. Our initial analysis of existing engines revealed a stark reality: off-the-shelf solutions were inadequate for achieving the level of authenticity we aimed for. This realization led us to the challenging yet necessary decision to develop a completely custom engine. Our goal was to overcome the limitations of the previous system by crafting a more advanced and realistic physics engine, capable of delivering a seamless and genuinely immersive skydiving experience in virtual reality.
Our solution was the creation of a custom physics system in Unity, meticulously designed to replicate the real-world experience of skydiving. We focused on achieving a high degree of realism, especially in the landing phase, where users can softly glide and land just like a skydiver would in real life. This required deep research into physics, including studying wind coefficients and treating the project with the precision of rocket science. The outcome is a VR skydiving experience that not only looks but also feels remarkably authentic, setting a new benchmark in virtual reality simulations.
