Build
Build Cities needed a mobile app and a way to search their civic graph with RAG-type retrieval and OpenAI. We shipped a React Native Expo app in record time, talking to their existing FalkorDB setup. We did not build CivicOS itself. We built the mobile client and the AI search layer they were missing.
Mission
Build Cities is a Civic Operating System for 21st-century towns: it coordinates skills, projects, and local networks so civic work happens in person. They already had CivicOS and a FalkorDB graph. What they needed from us was a native app people would actually open, plus search that could retrieve across that graph instead of keyword-matching a database.
Tech
React Native and Expo got a cross-platform app out quickly. Search uses OpenAI against their FalkorDB graph for RAG-style retrieval. The rest of CivicOS stayed theirs.
React Native
React Native, especially with Expo, is how we ship iOS and Android from one codebase when the timeline is tight. Components, navigation, and native modules stay close to web React, so we can move fast without standing up two separate mobile teams.
Expo let us ship iOS and Android from one codebase on a short timeline, against their existing FalkorDB-backed APIs instead of a greenfield backend.
